History Maker Egbo Sacked By Albania Club, Says No Regrets

By Daily Sports on November 13, 2020

Ndubuisi Egbo says he does not have any regrets or disappointments after he was sacked as the manager of KF Tirana on Friday.

Egbo made history last season when he became the first Nigerian and African coach to win a top-flight title with a European club.

The former Nigerian international conquered new grounds when he led Tirana to the Albanian League title last season.

He made more history when he became the first African coach to win a UEFA Champions League game after Tirana defeated Dinamo Tbilisi in the first round of qualifying.

However, despite his unprecedented achievements, Egbo has been sacked after just two games into the new Albanian season.

Tirana have won one and lost one of their two league games this season, while they are also out of European competitions after a 3-0 loss to Young Boys in the qualifying round of the Europa League.

Speaking after he was sacked, the former  Al-Masry goalkeeper says he has no bad feeling towards the club, and even thanked them for giving him the opportunity to lead the team.

“I would like to thank the club for the opportunity to serve, which helped me become the first African to win a European title and end up managing in the Uefa Champions League and the Europa League,” Egbo told BBC Africa Sport.

“I don’t have any regrets or disappointment because I gave the maximum and the team did likewise, so I remain grateful to God for what we achieved and accomplished together.

“To the fans for their incredible and overwhelming support towards me and the team, I am grateful.

“The players for their wonderful and positive spirit all through our campaign last season, I say kudos to them all.

“Both those who made big impact and those with little impact, all of them as a team made it to happen with faith in God almighty. For now there is no regrets but grateful to all.”

The 46-year-old also insists that the best is yet to come from him and it’s also impossible to erase the record he has set.
