Abia Central Senatorial District Seat 2023: Enter, Col. Austin Akobundu

By Victor Enyinnaya, Editor-In-Chief on October 19, 2022

You see, as an experienced journalist of many years standing it is like uphill task writing about a versatile subject matter like former National Organising Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Austin Akobundu, a retired Army Officer, Minister of State for Defence during administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan. In short, he wears big shoe, via sterling performances in all the public offices he has held. Let me say that whether you are writing a straight news story on him or you are writing features or outright analysis on him the writer must go extra mile to do a thorough spade work in order to come out with depth write up. For the records, I met him far back in the 1990’s when Ikwuano Development Union, Lagos Branch welcomed him as their illustrious son at the Nigeria Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) Victoria Island, Lagos.

Note that he was still a serving Military Officer.  I was a Reporter with the largest and best newspaper in Sub-Saharan Africa, the old good Daily Times. In short it was the golden era of Nigerian journalism.  It was Daily Times and other newspapers in the country.  To be honest with you since then those good old years the man Austin Akobundu has been towering in all facets for the good of it for his first career and after his retirement from the Military, he joined politics and has continued with his agenda setting instincts.

He is disciplined and suave. Above all, he is disarmingly unassuming too. He is the kind person Abia Central Senatorial zone wants to represent them at the upper legislative Chamber. He is straight forward and very creditable too. Akobundu like a golden fish has no hiding place and it is against that inflammable background therefore that he is no doubt the first choice.

My dear loyal readers, without much ado, he will be a strong representative of the Abia Central Senatorial zone in Abuja and more over, a good and great ambassador  from Ikwuano Local Government it is her turn to present a candidate to represent the zone in the incoming 10th Senate. He is a blessing and credible amongst his opponents from our Local Government, it is its turn to be in the Senate after supporting other candidates from other local governments that made up the Senatorial zone.

It is therefore imperative to urge all that made up the Senatorial zone not hesitate to cast their ballot in favour of Austin Akobundu whose track records of selfless service for the country cum Abia State are in the public purview for all to see. It will amount overstatement or repetition to say the Senatorial candidate of PDP in Abia South is one who the cap fits.

It won’t be far fetched to say that he has paid his dues serving loyally and foremost ensuring that the house he is does not fall. Austin Akobundu is a team player par excellence.  He will provide sound product that will ensure quality representation for the zone at the forthcoming 10th Senate.  He is a seasoned and calculative administrator. He is not only proven but also tested.

He will never be intimidated in any fora. Therefore Austin Akobundu is our man o..o…o!   He is a born leader, party man, an organizer and mobilizer of the first order. He calls a spade by its name. He does not talk on drop of a hat. It is no longer news that Austin Akobundu, has been working very hard to sustain his interest to contest for the Abia Central Senatorial District seat in 2023.

A retired Colonel in the Nigerian Army, Akobundu, is one of the bold faces of the South-East in the People Democratic Party (PDP). It would be recalled that when he was the Minister of State for Defence in former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, his performance was extremely exceptional.

His interest and love for his people are legion and also enduring too. His declaration to vie for Abia Central Senatorial would be the best thing to happen in the zone cum Abia State in general. Without looking too far, he has meritoriously served his party, the PDP faithfully in many capacities, and now presenting himself to seek the ticket of the party to vie for seat in the incoming 10th Senate.

For instance, he was quoted to have said that, he is from a strong party background and as it is now the bigwigs of the party urged him to present himself for election to the Senate. As it is widely said and believed too a good product markets itself without much advertisement so can be likened to awaiting Senator from Abia Central.

Reports said that he has been humbled by the overwhelming goodwill he has been receiving thus far. Akobundu is vehemently of the opinion that the PDP has the structure that could guarantee him victory at the poll. He promised to use his experience, exposure in public office and contacts to attract the dividends of democracy to the area when elected.

He has severally called on PDP zonal officers to work hard to support and collaborate with him to achieve his goal. Akobundu instigations that spanned over three Months revealed that he has a heart of gold and his consistent financial and moral support to his Senatorial zone has been so dripping as those who spoke to this columnist described him vividly as an icon of the party in the zone.

As the old age adage intones that charity begins at home, it is therefore safe to say that his Ikwuano constituency are solidly behind him. The Chairman of Ikwuano Local Government Area, Steven Mpamaugo, amongst other chieftains of the party in the area, are lining behind him..

He is armed, being former Minister of State for Defence, former National Vice Chairman of the PDP South East, former National Organising Secretary aside his long standing experience as retired Military Officer. He has intimidating curriculum vitae.

As we keep our figures crossed, keenly following the train of this quite achieve of great note moving round the six local governments that made up Abia Central Senatorial district, we will clap where necessary, criticise where we find the interest and welfare of the masses are trampled upon as that is the only best way we contribute our own quota in serving humanity through our profession.

If you refer to him as the messiah of the Senatorial district, you won’t be too far from saying the obvious as his humane nature has drastically endowed him to the people. Till next time as we will continue to sustain this crusade until he braces the tape of victory come February 2023 poll.

On that note we say enter our incoming Senator to represent us, Abia Central indigenes come 2023 in the Upper legislative Chamber.
