Air Osimhen! Fans hails Nigerian striker after gravity-defying header

By Daily Sports Nigeria on April 9, 2024

Fans have taken to the social media platform, X, formerly Twitter, to praise Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen after his terrific headed goal in Napoli’s 4-2 win over Monza on Sunday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The 25-year-old former Lille player scored from around 2.23 metres off the ground in the Partenopei’s 4-2 comeback win, drawing praise from fans for his aerial prowess and ability to find the back of the net astonishingly.

However, his goal didn’t break into the top 10 list of highest jumps in football, although he is already on the list with his highest jump of 2.58m (vs Spezia in February 2023), which puts him fifth on the list.

Meanwhile in Monday’s edition of Italian publication, Tuttosport, Osimhen’s picture graced the cover with the caption, ‘Air Osimhen’ in reference to basketball legend, Michael Jordan, known as ‘Air Jordan’ due to his high leaps.

On X, Frank The Writer wrote, “Someday, you’ll win the Ballon d’Or. Talented man!”

A Nigerian fan Asiwaju Lerry remarked on his remarkable tendency for scoring headers and wrote, “Back at what he does best.”

Another fan, @iamdikeh jokingly added, “Osimhen can’t tell he didn’t swallow an airplane before coming into this game!”

The highest-scoring jump in Serie A goes to Fikayo AC Milan defender Tomori for his goal against Juventus in May 2021, scoring from 2.61 metres off the ground. Number one on the list is Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored from 2.93m up for Real Madrid against Manchester United in February 2013.
