Premier League star charged over anti-gay tweet

By Nelson Dafe on August 25, 2016

On Saturday his name was sung by thousands of Burnley supporters and the watching world admired his pace and power as he scored one to help his club to a famous 2-0  home win against Liverpool in the English Premier League. With Burnley’s Andre Gray’s weekend exploits came more scrutiny and, hours later, a homophobic tweet he posted in 2012 became a cause of revulsion for many.
In the post on Twitter Gray appeared to condone killing of gay people. “Is it me or are there gays everywhere? #burn #die #makes me sick,” Gray tweeted.
Now despite deleting the post and issuing a written apology to fans posted on Burnley’s website in which the player stressed that he is a  changed man who doesn’t hold such views anymore, the English FA has slammed him with a misconduct charge for bringing the game into disrepute. Gray is expected to respond to the charge before August 31.
Meanwhile, other vile posts of Gray’s from the past are still standing as at the time of writing this report.
One of his sexist post from 2013  declared: “Would love to see women do pre season yano see if they moan about there period then.”
Others from 2014 include: “Lesson learnt today is….. Dont do a womens job washing machine done F’d up my s***”, and: “Why are women so bitchy? #JelousyFemalesTrait.”
The tweets were posted when the 25-year-old £9m pounds striker was playing for non-league side Hinckley.
