Madu sees a great season ahead for Wikki Tourists

Wikki Tourists midfielder, Harrison Madu on the eve of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Super4 tournament in Enugu took stock of the club's pre-season activities and declared that the club will profit in the new season from rigours of an intense pre-season build-up.

Wikki Tourists are one of four teams set to compete in the annual tournament which starts Wednesday, December 7 in Enugu. The club put up a fight for the title from the start of the season but fizzled out to third place few weeks to the completion of the season which was won by Rangers International.

Madu, who arrived in Enugu with the rest of the squad on Monday reflected on their preparations for the new season and declared: "Our focus now is on the Super4 here in Enugu. We are not in the Coal City to make up the numbers but to prove that we are set for the coming season. The matches we have played in the cause of our preparations have strengthened us and the lessons learnt will be taking to the field of play."

The Wikki midfielder was a key figure of the team throughout the past campaign, leading to the club's third position in the league which earned them a ticket to the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Bauchi side under new handler, Mohammed Baba Ganaru will battle in three fronts come next season, apart from the 2016/17 Nigeria Professional Football League, they also will play in the Federation Cup and face a Herculean task vying for the CAF Confederation Cup.

Wikki started the new pre-season included participation in a four-club tourney organized by the Gombe State Football Association and tagged North East Championship. El-Kanemi Warriors emerged champions with seven points. Doma United and hosts Gombe United were the other participants.

They later proceeded to Kaduna to feature in the Shehu Dikko Cup, another pre-season tournament which saw them emerge winners after scooping a total of 15 points.

Baba Ganaru stated that his wards displayed resilience to win the pre-season championship in Kaduna. He said the physical readiness of the boys and the bonding in the squad ahead of the Super4 is a clear indication of good things to come in the future.

Wikki Tourists will kick start their Super4 challenge against Federation cup champions, FC Ifeanyiubah at the Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium on Wednesday 7th December, 2016 from 4.45pm Nigerian time.

The tournament which will be decided on a round-robin format, will also see league champions Rangers International square up with Rivers United in a matchday 1 second fixture from 7pm local time. (npfl.com)
