Super Falcons ready for Cameroon clash — Dennerby

By Daily Sports on November 27, 2018

Thomas Dennerby says his Super Falcons side are in good shape to take on Cameroon in Tuesday's semi-final clash in the ongoing Africa Women Cup of Nations in Accra.

The Super Falcons will rekindle their rivalry with Indomitable Lionesses when they go toe-to-toe at the Accra Sports Stadium in the quest to clinch a spot in the final of the competition.

With both sides set to meet for the ninth time in the tournament's history, the holders’ gaffer believes his ladies will fight hard with everything in them to claim a win over Joseph Brain’s side.

“We are going to have a tough game [on Tuesday] and it’s a new game, we know about it,” Dennerby told media at a pre-match conference.

“Whatever happened early in the tournament, we don't care so much about it because it can change anything that happened before now. The only thing we can do is to prepare for our next game.

“We know we are really going to play a really good team but we have seen what we know about Cameroon and we think we really have a good chance to beat them. I think the players are really physically and mentally ready and I suspect that we will have a really good match.

“We have to use our scoring chances and go down with our heart, though it is immaterial who you’re playing. Other teams are getting closer and the Nigerian team has to work harder to stay on top.

“So, we expect a very tight game and hopefully we will be the lucky once again to take the day [on Tuesday] because we don't want them [other teams] to come close if you look at the statistic.”

While reiterating on his side’s ambitions, the Swede insists that clinching a ticket to next year’s Fifa Women’s World Cup and retaining the African crown remains their top targets.

“Our preparation is good; we simply work on the team and we don’t change so much. We had a plan coming to the tournament and we stick to it. This is one of five games in total, and our objective remains a place at the World Cup as well as defending the trophy," he continued.

“Our primary objective had always been qualifying for the World Cup. We have a good opportunity to achieve that tomorrow [Tuesday]. We have to stick by our match plan and be fully focused. Victory and World Cup ticket tomorrow [Tuesday] will make us more relaxed playing in the final.”

A triumph over Cameroon will help Nigeria book their place in the final, thereby confirming their automatic qualification for France 2019. (Goal)
