Ifeanyi Ubah to compound Sunshine’s woes today in Akure?

By Daily Sports on March 6, 2016

Embattled Sunshine Stars of Akure will this afternoon welcome the rampaging foreign legion of FC Ifeanyi Ubah at the Akure Township Stadium in a match that new coach, Kayode Olujohugbe, must win to convince the management of his capability to lift the wounded side. Sunshine Stars, who has just fired its coach, Samson Unuanel, quickly drafted in Olujohugbe on interim capacity.

With the resounding victory over 3SC midweek in Nnewi, with all three goals scored by the teams’ foreign stars, FC Ifeanyi Ubah, a.k.a Anambra Warriors, are well armed with both technical and on the field experience to pick at least a draw in the battle of Akure.

It promises to be an explosive encounter as the visitors who so far have demonstrated strong on the road character, may shock their host today to consolidate on their rise on the table.

Meanwhile, Sunshine Stars’ midfielder Afeez Aremu has called for his team to show “fight spirit” ahead of the game.

The Owena Waves are yet to win a game this season and suffered a setback on Wednesday after being defeated 2-1 by MFM FC in Lagos, a result which keeps them in the relegation zone.

The midfielder, however, is still carrying belief and insists the squad have the quality to produce the goods in Sunday’s vital clash, as the team look to win the league.

“We have to keep our heads up, work hard and show fighting spirit against Ifeanyi Ubah to show we are not a weak side as people think,” Aremu told Goal.

“We need step up our game and make the fans happy. We have to react. We can't play like this on Sunday otherwise we will lose.

“We have questioned ourselves, talked to each other and I am positive the result will start coming.

“As it stands, we are in the relegation zone and we can’t continue like this.”

Commenting on the sack of coach Samson Unuanel, the former Sharks player said the tactician was not responsible for the team’s poor form while dismissing claims that the team lacks quality players.

“Coach Unuanel was not our problem,” he continued “We have good players to win the league.
