Happy new year to you. It’s 2019. Get ready to be used to it now. It’s the time for new year resolutions and everyone makes a resolution that would make him or her happy and better all- round as an individual. 

For football club and those in the most followed football league in the world, the English Premier League, it is of course time to follow up on a resolution to acquire good players to help their Premier league ambitions as the transfer window opens in Europe.

Here, let’s look at the big six teams of the Premier league and what areas each of them need to take care of most now as regards players acquisition. 

1. LIVERPOOL

The Reds are looking like a super complete side as they lead the premiership pack heading into the new year. It’s really hard to look at one department of the team and say “this is where they need to inject new players into.”

That said, there was a season in which Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson were topping the league and looked extremely solid everywhere and then Ferguson went out and brought Henrik Larsson on loan from Helsingborg in 2007 anyway. At first it looked like an excessive signing but it later proved a shrewd one as Larsson chipped in some vital goals and, by his presence in the pitch, gave other United strikers some needed rest and less burden on their shoulders. 

His acquisition Man Utd to go on to consolidate their position in the table and they duly won the Premier League that season. 

Liverpool could borrow that from United and they could deep into the market and buy any quality player into any position just for consolidation sake. 

2. MAN CITY

Man City simply need a defensive midfielder to be around when Fernandinho is not available. 

They simply have to find a replacement for him because he’s well into his 30s and he needs a lesser work load to last long. 

Fernandinho’s importance to City cannot be understated. When he doesn’t play, City almost always do not win. They must look for an adequate back up plan for him. 

3. TOTTENHAM HOTSPURS

The Spurs midfield seems to be the only concern for the club now. They have Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele out through injury at the moment and the power and energy these two guys bring are hard to replace. Spurs may have to make a splurge for a good central midfielder to be more competitive and give the two sides above them a good run for their money. 

4. CHELSEA

“The Blues” are in crying need of an out and out striker. Alvaro Morata and Olivier Group have simply not led the police with enough goals that befit the status of Chelsea while the experiment of Eden Hazard as false 9, while promising, isn’t convincing. 

 5. ARSENAL 

Coach Unai Emery’s Arsenal need a sold defender or two as reinforcement. 

Then with Aaron Ramsey set to leave, and Mezut Ozil not a regular anymore, then Arsenal would certainly be needing to make a move to make up for the shortfall. 

6. MANCHESTER UNITED

New manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is blessed with so much talent that he must be wondering how outcome manager Jose Mourinho couldn’t do more with them. But moving forward, Man United need to shore up their defence with a central back and a reliable right back a priority. 

Champions League qualification through the top 4 is United’s main goal now and they need a great run to dislodge Chelsea and Arsenal for a spot.
