‘Zlatan’ Ediae, Edo State’s Best Grassroots Striker, Injures Shoulder in training, Out for At Least a Month

By Daily Sports on May 24, 2019

Precious Ediae, the striker of BJ Foundation who has been in super form this year, has suffered an elbow injury in his team’s training session.

Ediae, nicknamed Zlatan, after the famous Sweden star Zlatan Ibrahimovic, is widely regarded as the best youth striker around Edo State today. He emerged highest goal scorer in the just-ended Bet9ja Super Agents Cup a hotly-contested competition in which he helped BJ Foundation to a second-place finish, scoring eight goals in six matches, including a beautiful strike in the final against the eventual champions, Mission Side.

In the club’s first training session after the Bet9ja competition on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, afternoon at their Arinze Primary School training ground, Ediae made a leap for a cross and fell awkwardly, dislocating his left elbow in the process.

Ediae told me on Wednesday morning: “I’m gutted to be injured now. Thankfully, I didn’t fracture the shoulder. I will be back and better soon.”

Earlier in the Edo State Aiteo FA Cup this year, Ediae netted in four goals in four matches as BJ Foundation progressed to the semi-final of the competition.

The tall teenager is an all-rounder striker, with good pace, good strength, excellent aerial ability and a good pack of shots in his legs.

He is following well in the tradition of ex-players of BJ Foundation who excelled greatly for the club and who are now playing professional football. They include Watford of England’s Isaac Success, Victor Moses of Chelsea, Uche Ekpete of CAF Champions League side Ferovario of Maputo, Mozambique, Freedom Enaruna of Enyimba and Junior of Osaghae currently of Bendel Insurance.

Meanwhile, Ediae is still waiting to receive the 50,000 naira cash prize for emerging the highest goal scorer in the Bet9ja competition and hopes the organisers can contact him to redeem their pledge so he can better help himself to recuperate from the shoulder injury he picked up.
