Gernor Rohr: I Just Want To Keep Coaching Nigeria

By Daily Sports on April 10, 2020

Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr says he merely wants to continue doing his job, as he prepares to consider a new contract from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Amaju Pinnick, the Federation’s president, earlier this week laid out three key issues which Rohr must accept as part of a new deal: the German must live in Nigeria, accept his salary in Naira and look to nurture local players for the Super Eagles.

Yet, in an Instagram Live conversation with Colin Udoh, the German has claimed that he already spends more time in Nigeria than Europe (despite most of his players being based there), is not concerned with the financial details, and already has a strong record of calling on locally-based players.

“My philosophy is not to speak publicly about these things. I saw, like you, what was said on social media, but I can’t comment,” said Rohr in the Instagram conversation.

“Already, I’ve spent more time in Nigeria over the past three years. All my players, except one, plays abroad.”

The 66-year-old German, whose contract with the NFF lapses in July, went on to add that he has already rejected several offers from other teams.

“I’m waiting for the (contract) proposal. Things could be very easy. I don’t want more money, bonuses… just want to keep doing this,” he explained.

“Personally, I received a few offers from other countries but I rejected them. I just want to take this team to the next AFCON and World Cup.”

On the issue of players based within Nigeria, he added: “I’ve invited about 24 local players since I was appointed. Funnily, most of them get a contract in Europe almost immediately.

“It’s difficult getting local players who are better than the ones we already have. That’s why CHAN is important.” (African Football)
