Pulisic: ‘Freak Injury’ Disrupted Awesome First Season

By Daily Sports on April 18, 2020

Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic has said that a "freak injury" disrupted his first season in the Premier League but that he is excited to return to the team.

U.S. international Pulisic has not played for the club since January after sustaining a knock in training.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard said he suffered a "nasty injury" and Pulisic added it was more serious than expected.

"It was really tough with this most recent one," he told the club's website. "I think that a lot of people didn't realise how serious it was. It was a really freak injury in how it happened.

"It happened in training out of nothing really and it put me out a while. But I'm feeling good now, I've been training a lot and I'm just really excited to get back out on the field.

"It feels like it's been a long time without football for everyone at the moment, but certainly for me because I had the injury on top of everything that's going on now."

Following his £57.6 million move from Borussia Dortmund, Pulisic struggled to hold down a regular place in the team at the start of the season.

Pulisic said he was "frustrated" with his playing time but scored his first Chelsea hat trick in the 4-1 victory over Burnley in October.

The 21-year-old, who was voted U.S. Soccer's Male Athlete of the Year for 2019, has scored six goals in all competitions and said he has enjoyed his first year in England.

"It's been a really fun season for me, it's been awesome," he added. "It's been a big change for me coming to Chelsea and having to get to know a whole new team, a new league and stuff.

"I've been really proud of the guys and although we've had our tough moments, I think overall we've been pretty solid. I love playing with my teammates and we've had so many exciting games." (ESPN)
