As Covid-19 Pandemic Ravages, NFF Foot-drags on Rohr’s Contract

By Daily Sports on April 20, 2020

Presently, it is not a normal time in Nigeria and the globe, however this write-up would restrict itself to Nigeria due to the chaotic state of the country. This nonsense that has become Nigeria’s lot no doubt keep worsening and has been the bane of the now sharply divided nation.

As it is today, sports like other sectors have not been finding it easy to function optimally as every segment has been brought to its knees as a result of the scourge called Covid-19. While some countries are using this period of lockdown to strengthen weak or not too clear areas in their sports administration so as to come up stronger and gamely when this current window would be opened, the administrators in Nigeria are busy playing politics and when normalcy returns, Nigeria like the unready nations would begin as usual on a very shaky note.

For instance, while Sunday Dare is busy thinking and planning ahead on how best to reinvent sports at the national level, various national sports federations are busy working at cross purposes. I have made it abundantly clear here and in different sports programmes I have appeared, that what happens in Nigeria remains nonconcrete and these administrators that have gone to other climes to see and most times under study such systems unfortunately come back and refuse to implement such viable options. This is because if it is properly done, it would deprive them the loopholes’ that lead to corruption and illegal enrichment of themselves.

Since stealing from public purse has been the order of day in the Nigerian polity, everyone struggles to get there and when that is achieved, the net would be to form a solid gang to sustain themselves in the corrupt system and therefore shut out any opposition and imaginary enemies.

That brings us to what is happening in the Nigeria Football Federation’s all motion no movement stance on the renewal of Gernot Rohr contract for second term as technical hand of the Super Eagles. As we did discuss extensively here last week, this issue and to be honest with you, made or hit beautiful response and one cannot be less glad about such.

I have not in any way failed to frown at the way and manner Amaju Pinnick and the few executive committee members he takes along in decision making on the renewal of the Super Eagles technical adviser, carry along. It is why the issue has lingered on and it has its consequences at the end of the day.

I have also often advocated the transparent deal that would not give room for blame trading or bulk passing when the chips are down. Nigeria, I vehemently believe does not need such scenario so far as Rohr coaching issue is concerned. If the country is not renewing his papers, it ought not to take this hide and seek for the deadlock to broken.

The latest now is that the NFF has reportedly told those that are eying the plum job to look elsewhere as there is no vacancy in the flagship job of the Super Eagles. Whether such report is from the football house authority remains to be seen as the day passes. I will continue to hold such and other reports from the NFF with a pinch of salt until Rohr comes up to confirm he has at last signed the dotted lines.

Another unconfirmed report also has it that the apex football body in the country, said it has sent the new contract papers to the Franco-German sweat merchant to sign. That also would be applauded when the dramatis personae confirms such. NFF hired media houses are flying several kites and one must be careful before sticking out his neck, otherwise one media would be grouped as not reliable information house.

That is what obtains presently in form of light fighting darkness. It is on record that it is  extremely difficult to fight such battles as in-house tug of war has been rated as one of the most difficult to easily subdue.

Only God would save Nigeria and her football cum sports as there has been nothing that tilts towards achieving the ultimate destination of Nigeria Sports Reborn because there are lots of pretence and eye service in low and high places the country.

Very few of us have stuck to our guns that things should be done within the ambits of widely accepted international best practices and I must be honest with you that this has got more enemies for us than friends.

I must also confess that this stance worked handsomely for us when honest and incorruptible men and women were still at the helm of sports administration in national federations. Death has dealt a deadly blow and none of such is in charge now due to old age which sadly left the country's sports administration in the hands of these rogue administrators littered all over national sports federations, which has made sports more vulnerable.

We will continue to drum it to the hearing of the reading public despite these peoples style

of pretending to be deaf and dumb. One thing is certain, and that is that no wrong done to man by fellow man would go unpunished as what goes around, comes around.

Our social media handles are active round the clock. Please let’s continue to observe the safety rules of National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on the current Covid-19 pandemic. Keep shooting hard till next week!!
