Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side Abia Warriors have dropped five of their players and have so far signed eight new players in preparation for the 2020/21 season.

Warriors began pre-season training under new head coach Imama Amapakabo last month and the former Rangers coach is slowly getting the team into his preferred shape even before their rivals start preparations as from next week.

According to sources at the Abia State capital Umuahia, one of the dropped players is Jamilu Danjuma, who was signed during the course of last season from Jigawa Golden Stars, ending a short stint in Umuahia.

Left back Ubong Williams, who signed a new two-year deal with the club in January, is said to be among those cut off as well as impressive midfielder Oghenetega Ebetomame, who joined the club last year from FC Ifeanyiubah.

Other players on the chopping list include James Odeh and utility star Omini Somtochukwu while striker Atilola Abdulsalami is said to be interesting Warri Wolves.

Meanwhile, the Warriors have confirmed the acquisition of eight players including goalkeepers Vincent Edafe and Olorunleke Ojo, who joined from Dakkada and Sunshine Stars respectively.

Two former Enyimba stars Markson Ojobo and Nzube Anaezemba, who both won the league with the People’s Elephant in 2015, have also joined Amapakabo in Umuahia while former league top scorer Godwin Obaje has equally ended his short stint abroad by joining Warriors.

Two relatively unknown youngsters Mustapha Jubreel and Dennis Kingsley have also joined the team as well as centre back Ibukun Harrison from Dakkada.

More signings are expected in the next few days as the team intensifies preparation for the next season.
