NPFL: Odige warns Insurance players

By Daily Sports Nigeria on March 8, 2023

Bendel Insurance coach, Monday Odige, has warned his side against complacency when the second stanza of the Nigerian Professional Football League resumes March 25, The PUNCH reports.

Insurance ended the first stanza of the NPFL season unbeaten, recording seven wins and two draws to finish top of Group A with 23 points from nine games.

The Benin Arsenal are one of only 10 teams in Africa that are unbeaten so far this term in their domestic leagues and Odige has assured that his players won’t be taking their feet of the pedal when they return to action on match-day 10 against Enyimba.

Insurance had defeated the Elephants in their last game of the first stanza in Group A, thanks to a sublime strike from Imade Osarenkhoe.

Teams unbeaten in the African leagues this term are Ivory Coast’s ASEC Mimosas, Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy FC, ASKO de Kara from Togo and Liberia’s BEA Mountain haven’t lost after 18 games.

Others are Egypt’s Al Ahly, who are unbeaten in 17 games just as CR Belouizdad from Algeria and Namibia’s African Stars are yet to lose in 16 league games so far.

Bo Rangers of Sierra Leone are unbeaten in 15 games, while Gambia’s Marimoo have managed to stay unbeaten in nine league games.

“We still have more games to play in the second half of the season,” Odigie told The PUNCH.

“Winning the league isn’t our priority as we want to focus more on maintaining a high level of performance in our remaining fixtures.

“Our team is young, so they need to be thirsty for success. If all this can be done, success will surely come and in achieving that we will not be complacent.”
