Peseiro gets Awoniyi boost for Djurtus tie

By Daily Sports Nigeria on March 16, 2023

Ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau in March,  Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro, has been handed a major boost after a UK publication, The Athletic, reported that Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi was set to return to action.

Awoniyi was a major doubt for the double-header clash against the Djurtus later this month after he was initially ruled out of action until the end of March, but he could now be available for the AFCON qualifiers.

The 25-year-old has been injured since January, during the Tricky Trees 1-0 victory against Southampton in their second English Premier League game of 2023.

Awoniyi scored the only goal in the match, but also suffered a groin injury, which has kept him out of Steve Cooper’s team since then.

The striker had only just joined Forest from Union Berlin last summer, following an impressive season with the German outfit.
