Iwobi rattled by Everton exit rumours

By Daily Sports Nigeria on March 29, 2023

Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi, has admitted he was rattled by rumours linking him with an exit from Everton amid rumours that he could be joining Turkish club Fenerbahce during the January transfer window.

The Nigeria international made this known during an interview with The Beautiful Game podcast.

The Toffees midfielder has been among the club’s best performers over the last 12 months and is currently out of contract at Goodison Park in 2024 which saw links for a late exit after the January transfer window.

But the 26-year-old has revealed that he knew nothing about the links and insisted that while it’s nice to hear that other clubs are interested, he has no intention of moving to Turkey any time soon.

“Nope [I didn’t hear anything],” he said

“First, I posted on Instagram and just saw bare [a lot] of comments and I was thinking, ‘What?’.

“I didn’t know anything about it. Then I’m getting mentioned on Twitter by my boys that I might be going to Turkey, but I was like no man. The only way I’m going to Turkey is for my teeth or my hairline [laughs].

“No, I was a bit rattled. It’s always nice to get interest from another team but nah, just focus on football.”

With just a year left on his current contract, Everton have opened talks with the former Arsenal player to extend his stay for a foreseeable future with speculations that both parties are close to agreeing to a new deal.
