Eagles lack cohesion, lament fans

Despite picking up a win against Guinea-Bissau in the second game of the double-header Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at the Estadio 24 de Setembro on Monday, fans bemoan the lack of chemistry in the Super Eagles, hence the reason for the poor performance, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Eagles fought hard to claim a 1-0 win over the Wild Dogs away from home to return to winning ways and end their four-match consecutive defeats but had to rely on a 30th-minute penalty converted by Moses Simon after Bright Osayi-Samuel was brought down in the opposition area.

The win sees the three-time African champions return to the top of Group A table with nine points from four games. Guinea-Bissau are second on seven points, while Sierra Leone with five points are third and whipping boys Sao Tome and Principe are bottom of the log with just a point.

Undeterred by the win, some fans pointed areas that the Eagles can improve on.

Denna Williams wrote on Twitter, “Nigeria players play with big egos, with no one wanting to help each other or play as a team. (Alex) Iwobi is our best midfielder currently, he’s always composed and relax when making decisions Samuel Chukwueze need a lot of competition and (Ademola) Lookman future so bright.”

Donbabadee added, “Most of the front liners played selfishly forgetting that football is a team sport.”

Another Twitter use, stinger, also shared his view on the team’s poor teamwork.

“We have the best players for all the key positions, all that the coach needs to do is to create football chemistry and support each other,” he wrote.

“Force the team to play three touches to create solid Chemistry among themselves.”

Madu Charles tweeted, “A lot need to be fixed especially the midfield, our defense, then cohesion in the from three line. Good job Super Eagles.”

“It becomes very important that you guys work on the unity and strong teamwork. Your teamwork is zero which is not good for the team at all,” Adeleke Abayomi said.

“Chukwueze Samuel is too selfish and not playing well with Oshinmeh Victor. WAKE UP GUYS!”

Doubting if the current team can challenge for trophy due to the lack of chemistry, Miracle Nelson said, “This team lacks cohesion, I doubt if they can challenge for trophies alongside other countries like Senegal and the rest. Like seriously they need to up their game.”

Prince Zamani believes the team is becoming boring with their style of play.

“This Super Eagles team is not playing like a team. Their games are becoming more boring on daily basis.”

The Eagles will hope to seal a place at next year’s AFCON in Ivory Coast when they face Sierra Leone in September.
