Finidi George Emphasizes Team Improvement As Enyimba Gears Up For CAF Champions League Return

By Daily Sports Nigeria on August 15, 2023

Lagos, Nigeria – As Enyimba Football Club eagerly anticipates their reentry into the prestigious CAF Champions League, Head Coach Finidi George has underlined the paramount importance of concentrating on team development.

The People’s Elephant is poised to commence their 2023/24 season with a preliminary round clash against Libyan outfit, Al Ahli Benghazi.

With the inaugural leg of the impending fixture looming just around the corner, Finidi George asserts that his team must relentlessly pursue avenues for bolstering their capabilities in preparation for the imminent challenge.

Addressing the press, George articulated, “Our focus must remain impeccably aligned with our priorities.

At this juncture, our chief objective has been to fortify our team on multiple fronts – through tactical enhancements and squad refinement.”

Reflecting on the previous season’s achievements, where Enyimba successfully clinched their qualification for the continental stage and clinched the league title, George affirmed, “While we celebrated our accomplishments from last season, it’s essential to recognize that the past is a closed chapter.

The commencement of a new season beckons, and our readiness is pivotal.”

George expounded on his unwavering dedication to continuous growth, sharing, “As we prepare for the upcoming encounter with Ahli Benghazi, we’ve undertaken a series of practice matches – a 3-1 triumph over Akwa United, a closely contested 1-1 draw against Rangers International, and an insightful 0-1 setback against Bayelsa United.

While these engagements may not have been competitive, they’ve offered invaluable insights and crucial tests that are instrumental in honing our capabilities.”

Expressing optimism about his players’ progress, the seasoned coach added, “The overall team performance has been commendable.

Although these were not official matches, they provided us with essential opportunities to fine-tune our strategies.

The players have showcased promising signs, and we are poised to harness these positive developments in our journey forward.”

As Enyimba readies itself to make its mark in the CAF Champions League, Finidi George’s resolute focus on advancing the team’s collective prowess embodies the dedication and fervor that characterize their pursuit of excellence in the forthcoming season.
