The Nigerian Football Federation has retained the services of Christopher Danjuma as the head coach of the women’s U-20 team,  PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The decision comes after Danjuma and other applicants underwent a screening and interview exercise by the federation’s Technical Committee.

According to a statement from NFF Director of Communications, Ademola Olajire, Danjuma’s appointment was approved by the NFF Executive Committee.

Danjuma will be assisted by the trio Mansur Abdullahi, Effioanwan Ekpo and Yahaya Audu.

Abdullahi was previously an assistant coach with the U-17 and U-20 women’s team.

Former Falcons’ midfielder, Ekpo, on her part, represented Nigeria for a decade between 2000 and 2010, featuring at the 2003 and 2007 FIFA World Cup finals in USA and China respectively.

She also featured at the 2004 and 2008 Women’s Olympic football tournaments in Athens and Beijing respectively, the 2007 All-Africa Games in Algiers, Algeria and was a three-time Women Africa Cup of Nations winner.

Audu, who has been the goalkeeper trainer of the team, also returns to his position.

The Falconets will commence their 2024 Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign with a second-round, first-leg encounter against their counterparts from Mauritius in Saint Pierre on October 8, with the return leg scheduled for the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja on Saturday, October 14, 2023.

Colombia will host the 2024 U-20 Women’s World Cup finals.
