Awoniyi boasts best shot conversion rate in EPL

By Daily Sports Nigeria on February 21, 2024

Despite being out for the majority of the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons, Nigeria international, Taiwo Awoniyi, boasts the best record of the player with the highest shot-conversion rate in the English Premier League for the two seasons, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

In these two seasons, Awoniyi has made a miserly 41 appearances from a possible 76 league appearances due to several injuries suffered.

The Nigerian striker from a possible 6,840 minutes featured for just 2,352 minutes and scored 16 goals in the process.

While Manchester City’s Erling Haaland boasts a higher tally of 52 goals across the two seasons, Awoniyi with 16 goals has the English Premier League record for shot conversion.

According to a recent report by SkySports, the Nigerian international boasts a remarkable 28.6 per cent shot conversion rate, surpassing Manchester City’s Haaland (26.1 per cent), Hee-Chan Hwang (24.1 per cent), Callum Wilson (24per cent), Diogo Jota (22.5 per cent), and Ivan Toney (21.4 per cent).

Last season, the 27-year-old missed 11 games for Nottingham Forest due to injuries and has already missed the same the same amount of games this season with 13 more games to the end of the campaign.

Awoniyi was also forced to miss out on representing Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast despite being named in the provisional squad.

Returning to action, the former Union Berlin player has bagged two goals in his four Premier League games for the Tricky Trees, including opening the scoring in their crucial 2-0 victory against West Ham United, which helped them steer clear of the relegation zone.

As Nottingham Forest prepares to travel to Villa Park to take on Unai Emery’s Aston Villa in their Matchday 26 Premier League encounter, Awoniyi will be eager to maintain his impressive form.
