Iheanacho: Rohr under pressure to drop Ighalo, Ideye

By Daily Sports on September 16, 2016

Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr is reported to have come under intense pressure to drop Watford striker Odion Ighalo and his Greece based counterpart, Brown Ideye as Super Eagles top strikers.

The German is being talked into giving that role to Manchester City starlet, Kelechi Iheanacho. Iheanacho has been in the form of his life, having scored three goals in the last three matches, including a stunning goal against Tanzania and two for City and this has heightened the pressure on Rohr.

A source from the Nigeria camp said so Odion Ighalo Odion Ighalo me of Rohr’s assistants are also of the opinion that Iheanacho be made Eagles’ top striker. A close associate of the German coach confirmed that, talks have been held in that regard and it’s a possibility as the search for a cure to the Super Eagles goal scoring problem appears to be near.

“I can’t categorically say it will happen but I can confirm to you that talks have been held and the prospect of Iheanacho leading the line against Zambia is a possibility,” he said.

“Talks didn’t start because of his recent goal scoring form, not at all. It started since after the Tanzania game. Rohr is a big fan of his finishing abilities right from the training ground. He could lead the line ahead of Igahlo and Ideye in Ndola when we play Zambia in October”. (Vanguadngr.com)
