Chelsea slapped with £100k fine for Man City brawl, escape points deduction

By Daily Sports on December 14, 2016

Chelsea will not be deducted points for the fracas that occured towards the end of their match against Manchester City on December 3.

Both clubs have been handed a fine by the Football Association, with City charged £35,000 and Chelsea receiving an £100,000 punishment.

It had been speculated that the Blues could suffer the unprecedented fate of being deducted points for failing to control their players in the match at the Etihad Stadium due to the number of similar previous offences they have been charged with.

Chelsea had been fined four times, prior to the latest incident, for violating FA rules on player conduct in the past 19 months.

Most notably, they landed themselves in hot water with the authorities after a bust-up with Tottenham players at the end of last season following a game in which nine players were booked.

Chelsea were fined heavily after that incident and warned that their repeat offences could lead to a point deduction, which has not been imposed in this kind of scenario since the Premier League's inception in 1992.

The latest bust-up occured in the aftermath of a Sergio Aguero tackle on David Luiz that saw the Argentine striker sent off by referee Anthony Taylor.

Nathaniel Chalobah reacted angrily to the challenge on his team-mate, pushing Aguero over and sparking shoving matches throughout the two sets of players.

Man City midfielder Fernandinho was also sent off for grabbing the throat of his Chelsea counterpart Cesc Fabregas. (goal.com)
