NPFL champions Enugu Rangers have said they have been left “shocked” and “disappointed” following claims of match-fixing by Gombe United in a recent 3-3- draw between both teams.
Gombe United have announced they have set up a special committee to investigate their goalkeeper Emmanuel Fabiyi over allegations that he threw away the rescheduled game against Rangers.
Rangers in a statement defended themselves against any match-fixing allegations and threatened to take legal action if these insinuations persist.
“Rangers management express shock and disappointment that highly placed individuals in the football fraternity should descend so low and perversed in their reactions towards an outstanding match…” read the statement in part
“Rangers International Football Club being a responsible, credible and responsive club there are laid down exant laws, rules and regulations stipulated and open towards addressing such frivolous and scandalous accusations and allegations rather than resorting to smearing media campaign against Rangers which is very unnecessary, irresponsible and condemnable.
“We see the actions of these elements as desperadoes and very unfortunate who will stop at nothing but lies, falsehood and tarnishing image of clubs to seek cheap and questionable popularity.”
