Kelechi Emeteole burial fix for August 18

By Daily Sports on July 12, 2017

The family of late former Nigeria international, Kelechi Emeteole, has confirmed that the remains of the onetime Green Eagles defender will be laid to rest on August 18, 2017, in his home town, Isiukwuator, Abia State, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

"The (burial) date is 18 August," Emeteole's wife, Phoebe Emeteole, said on Sunday, in a most emotion ladden tone.

The former Heartland of Owerri coach died in India early this month after a protracted illness. His corpse has been flown down to Owerri where it was deposited in an undisclosed mortuary.

Emeteole during his active days, played for (defunct) Spartans of Owerri and equally coached the club when it metamorphosed into Heartland, helping them reach the 2009 CAF Champions League final, losing only on away goal rule to the winners TP Mazembe after a 2-2 aggregate scoreline.

As a coach, Emeteole also had stints at El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri and Enugu Rangers. He stepped down from his technical adviser role at Rangers in 2015, leading to his assistant, Imama Amakapabo, stepping up to fill the void before winning the NPFL title for Rangers last year after 32 years.

In 1985, Emeteole assisted Sabastine Brodricks-Imasuen as Nigeria's U-17 side, Golden Eaglets won the first edition of the FIFA U17 World Cup in China. He was also assistant coach at U-20 national team and the senior team, the Super Eagles.

There will be a service of song and christian wake-keep at his Owerri residence prior to his burial. (Completesportsnigeria.com)
