Meshref Wins ITTF Women’s Title

Africa’s No1 female ranked player, Egypt’s Dina Meshref, was third time lucky on Sunday, winning the women’s singles final of the ITTF Challenge Nigeria Open against Olga Kulikova of Russia at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos, Nigeria.

Meshref who lost out in the final of the ITTF Challenge Nigeria Open in two successive years outclassed Kulikova in straight sets 4-11, 14-16, 10-12, 6-11 to the delight of the Lagos State Governor … Akinwunmi Ambode who was in attendance.

Meshref told the Completesportsnigeria.com shortly after her win that her determination to end her losing streak in the finals spurred her to victory on Sunday.

“I have lost here twice in the finals and I was desperate to end it,” she said to Completesportsnigeria.com while walking away in ecstacy.

She and her compatriot Yousra Helmy had earlier lost the in the women’s double finals to the pair of Hungarian pair of Balint Bernadett and Pergel Szandra.

In the men’s double final, top seeds Antoine Hachard and Gregoire Jean of France won 3-1 (9-11,11-7,11-5,11-9) against Romanian duo Alexandru Cazacu and Rares Sipos. (Completesportsnigeria)
