BREAKING: Giwa FC thrown out of Nigerian league

By Daily Sports on May 20, 2016

The League Management Company ruled this afternoon that the club is in breach of NPFL Framework and Rules for failing to honour three cumulative fixtures without acceptable reason.

The three ‘home’ fixtures, Giwa failed to honour in Ilorin where they have been banished, were against Wikki (Matchday 14), Akwa United (Matchday16) and Enyimba (Matchday 18), which was to have been played yesterday.

Giwa FC was banished to Ilorin to play three consecutive home games after disturbances in its Matchday 12 game against Enugu Rangers in Jos.

LMC ruled that Giwa FC's letter to have its game against Enyimba rescheduled failed to meet NPFL provision requesting for postponement. The club had failed to state any reason for asking that the match be rescheduled in another venue but Ilorin.

Giwa FC will also pay a fine of N250,000 as expenses for Ilorin stadium hire, security and other logistics incurred for the match versus Enyimba.

For failing to honour the fixture with Enyimba, Giwa FC will pay a fine of N10 million.

Giwa FC has a right to appeal or accept the decision within 48 hours.

Consequently LMC has notified all club chairmen that Giwa FC has been expelled from the NPFL.

LMC also said that all clubs that have played Giwa FC to date will be fairly compensated in proportional basis.

LMC will review the matter of registered players currently contracted to Giwa FC.

Giwa FC will forfeit all monetary earnings due to it this season from the LMC.

All matches involving Giwa FC, played or unplayed, have been suspended without prejudice to the final determination of the matter of the club’s failure to honour the match against Enyimba.

Giwa FC’s proprietor, Chris Giwa has been in protracted litigation tussle with the Amaju Pinnick-led Nigeria Football Federation, which is recognised by the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA). Giwa claims he is NFF president and that he has court judgment to that effect.

His resort to the court is against FIFA’s rule and Nigeria had been banned – and then warned – as a result of Giwa’s legal battles.

Giwa told sports journalists early this week that his club will not respect the LMC’s decision to banish his club to Ilorin because the body is supervised by the Pinnick-led NFG, which he considered illegal.
