Arsenal Storm Brentford As English Premier League Returns Today

By Daily sports on August 13, 2021

New boys, Brentford will play their first game in English topflight league since 1938/37 season when they host Arsenal in the English Premier League opener.

Brentford are among the three teams promoted from the second tier English Championship. The others are Watford and Norwich City.

The match at the Brentford Community Stadium is among the 10 games that will see approximately 300,000 fans across stadiums in England.

Speaking on the 2021/2022 season, English Premier League Chief Executive Officer, Richard Masters, who described the championship as the “most competitive league in Europe,” told BBC that this season holds a lot for many followers of the game.

Masters, who took up his position at the Premier League in December 2019, said: “I am expecting this season to be competitive and there are a chasing pack of clubs who want to get into those European places.

“We know the difference that can make to your finances and your overall future. The Premier League is the most competitive league in Europe. We want it to stay that way. I believe it still is.”

On the return of fans, Masters said: “It is a momentous moment,” Masters said of the return of fans.

While last season was largely played out in empty stadiums, the relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions in England means that larger attendances are expected during the upcoming campaign, although some clubs want fans to have proof of negative COVID-19 tests or full vaccination status.

Tomorrow at the Old Trafford, Manchester United will host old foes, while Burnley will tackle Brighton and Hove Albion.

Chelsea, who on Wednesday best Villarreal to win the European Super Cup, will begin their EPL campaign at home against Crystal Palace, while Everton, with former Liverpool manager, Rafa Benitez, in charge, will host Southampton at Goodison Park.

FA Cup champions, Leicester City are paired against Wolverhampton Wanderers, while Watford will host Aston Villa with Norwich City entertaining Liverpool. (The Guardian)
