Giwa FC goalkeeper buried

The remains of former goalkeeper of Giwa FC of Jos, Timothy chichi Okere, was at the weekend interred to mother earth in his home-town Umuahuha Alulu, in Ngor Okpala local government area of Imo state.

"Timo boy" as he was fondly called by friends and admirers, had died on May 4 in Jos, after battling with a spinal cord injury for two years.

Until his injury which sidelined him, Timothy who joined Giwa FC from city rivals, Mighty jets, was an integral member of the team, as he maned the post throughout the team's campaign in the Nigerian National League, helping them to gain promotion to the Nigerian professional league (NPL) three years ago, before he was displaced b y current f l y i n g e a g l e s k e e p e r O j o Ol o runl eke , from the shot stopper position, two years back.

At a point in time, it was believed that the injury had been healed,as he was discharged from the hospital, and was seen going for light walks, but the injury r e l a p s e d about a year ago, which finally claimed his life.

The proprietor of the club Chris Giwa had earlier in a chat with The AUTHORITY eulogized the late footballer, saying that history will not forget the lad for his contributions towards the success of the team, while praying that the good Lord should grant him eternal rest. Ambassador Giwa said that the club had provided logistics, which ensured that the 26 years old player was given a befitting burial.
