Hard Times: Tinubu When‘ll These Pains End

By Victor Enyinnaya on June 5, 2023

It is no news that the hardship in the country redoubled shortly after Bola Tinubu, President of Nigeria announced the total removal of petroleum subsidy immediately power musical chair changed to his hands.

That is the brunt the citizenry have been going through since May 29, since then; there has been intensive tension in the land.  It is obvious that Nigerians groans in near perpetual suffering.

Note that nothing concrete is being said on this glaring abnormal situation bestowing the shores of a supposedly oil producing country. Sadly what has started playing out is the usual politics of the ruling party, APC making frantic efforts to divide Labour, support it with propaganda and other deceitful arts.  The earlier Nigerians reject this perpetual suffering Tinubu and his cohorts have put on the, the better for all of us.

While Dele Alake has been assigned to divide Labour, Bayo Ononuga is out there issuing provocative press statements on one hand and other boys, even elders deployed to sell this same evil policy which will impoverish the masses .  In 2011 this very President Tinubu spent so much money and mobilized Nigerians from mainly South West to occupy Ojota where he not only fed the surging crowd then, but also shared money to sustain the revolt against former President Goodluck Jonathan. Recall that speaker after speaker dubbed this same policy obnoxious which they vowed to reject during President Jonathan’s government. How come it becomes maiden policy of President Tinubu, What goes around, comes around?

This fledging government has already marked out Nigeria Labour Congress President, Joe Ajaero as being political on this oil subsidy matter. People are asking what was it in 2012 when mostly the Western agitators occupied Nigeria because of this same policy?  Again, the coast is getting clearer now, as very loquacious Adams Oshomole, the pretending Comrade was seen on Sunday after Federal Government delegation held meeting with Trade Union Congress  whose President now speaks from both sides of the mouth. A.P.C and Tinubu have line up their best propagandists to sell this wicked policy pretending it is people friendly, how long will Nigerians be fooled taking advantage of large population who are illiterate?

The T.U.C President gave himself out when he earlier raged from his Union’s agreement with its NLC counterpart. The cat was let off the bag after his meeting with Dele Alake led FG delegate with Oshomole. Osifo instead of standing for Nigerian populace demanded that government should meet its long list of demands for its members which Alake quickly told Nigerians government must look into. That is where we are today. NLC is bent on going to strike come Wednesday.  The government which is just on board has divided Labour ranks.  They thought that it is the best way to go. It has further divided NLC along tribal lines of North and South West not joining the proposed strike, which is a way to further promote tribalism.

President Tinubu would forever be remembered for one his frontline rolled opposition to subsidy removal in 2011 when former Jonathan saw the damage of this monster called oil subsidy. He  selfishly ensured the peoples policy failed and today his attack dogs are unleashed on all media houses online and offline to disseminate false information on the same oil subsidy removal he vehemently opposed when he was in opposition against a sitting government of Goodluck Jonathan.

Today, the hen is home to roost and so far it is from APC/Tinubu stock. To the President and his boys, nothing must be seen as being wrong about whatever decision rightly or wrongly taken. However, this path he has taken will not save the present situation.   If the President has so early forgotten the plight of Nigerians before he went into Aso Rock Villa the other day, Nigerians are living in worst conditions now than he left them after the woeful failure of Buhari/APC government. Though it is not business as usual during Buhari regime but the worst times are here.

Dividing NLC will never be the solution to this mess on ground rather; it would escalate it and make life more unbearable. This policy of putting the cart before the horse, this hopeless situation in Nigeria today can better be described as a real dash of vintage; it is like white roses, black wreaths. Economic indices points vividly to the direction leaving stagnation behind. Honestly, it has been negative thoughts all over the place. Anybody that holds different view aside theirs automatically becomes an enemy. This is exactly what the masses saw and refused to vote for Tinubu because they know his administrative style in Lagos State which is enslaving the masses to labour to his advantage.

Now, the so called oil subsidy which is huge amount of money allegedly shared by alleged ‘powerful people in Nigeria, is being pushed over to the Nigerian masses to pay by way of sky rocked increase in fuel price.

Beyond any incentive or what they call palliatives, Nigeria is in danger. The country is bleeding profusely and instead of finding way out of it, Tinubu and his boys are taking wrong steps already. Aside his government’s body language, excluding some major components that made up the country in major key positions in the national assembly even the already announced other appointments are glaring.

You don’t need look too far to deduce where Tinubu’s pendulum of government is faced and swinging. However how far he would go with yet another year of government of exclusion like Buhari would be on the front burner few weeks from now.

Nigeria is like already a dead horse, flogging it would remain exercise in futility. There has not been listening government since former President Goodluck Jonathan left government in 2015. We all knew that Buhari that left the other day was completely a lame duck that surrounded himself with his kind of persons. They looted with ease and left to their various villages and mansions enjoying their loot, That is Nigeria for you where people believe that when you are in government, that provides great opportunity to loot public funds meant for the provision of infrastructures to the people.

As the clock ticks fast as usual, let’s keep our fingers crossed and keep shooting hard till next week. Meanwhile we wait!!
