The high performance of Super Falcons team in their last game against co-host Australia has remained reverberating in the media space and the girls from Nigeria took their chances in game while the homers were all out to win right from referee’s blast of the whistle.

The Australian girls did not leave anybody in doubt as they came all over their Nigerian opponents forcing from all angles their intention to score early but the Super Falcons players were calm, calculated and resolute rebuffing their dangerous moves.

Note that it was until the host drew the first blood that brought out more determination and focus from the Nigerians.  The game is now history as Super Falcons and Nigerians look up earnestly at the next game against Ireland in their last game in the group.

The girls came back gamely and sustained it which no doubt has been long associated with Nigerian teams whenever the chips were down.  The bench made great changes as the presence of Oshiala was a game changer.  She left nobody in doubt of her fitness, purposeful and articulation on the task foremost to announce her eventual arrival in the turf.

Her goal not only came timely but also was a classic of goal clinically executed by the master of the art. The next game is important also.  If what happened in game of Australia is anything to go by, there seems glimmer of hope that the girls are gradually warming steadily into the championship where the fittest is fast holding and making strong statements as the “owner” of the beautiful game.

Super Falcons against all odds at home have looked set in taking the bull by the horn to face squarely the task ahead them thereby taking their future in their hands.  That is what is key and spirit behind the Super Falcons thus far.

The girls have likely resolved among themselves to give good account of their performance as furtherance in the football summit which will be more gainful to them as football club owners would express more interest in their exploits on the field of play.  Being the last group game against Ireland one hopes the girls will take the battle full blast to them.

One must be honest with the Nigerian girls who had not taken any of their opponents for granted.  That manifested in their opening match against Canada and the team’s match plan paid off.  The side repeated such strategy against the Aussies and came out victorious.  One quality thing I have noticed in the Super Falcons side is their calmness at the opening of each match so far, not losing concentration against their opponents that came putting pressure in their quest to rattle them and thereby become the leader.

It must be said here that both the defence and the attack have linked up beautifully so far.  Again the middle of the pack players have left nobody in doubt on their eyes on the ball.  The midfields have contested the ball keenly against their opponents and showed grit which had relieved intensive pressure on the defence.

The Ebi Onome led team should remain focused and strictly concentrated on their set goal in this tournament of wits and brawns.  The words that have been pouring in since that shock on the co- host country, Australia should merely be seen as those Nigerian things that always come in times like the one on our hands now.  The columnist is aware that both the technical crew and the players are more concerned on the next game. The team is more interested on what would add value to their efforts. The players are looking forward to better the team’s rating and furtherance in the game which the side has become one of the oldies in the Women World Cup and the most celebrated in African continent today.

Super Falcons despite starvation of funds by the NFF have made statement which made these people against their welfare eat their words.  I read somewhere Gusau praised same Falcons to high heavens.  I call such necked hypocrisy of the worst order,  typical Nigerian kind of behaviour.

They are our great patriots than these politicians’ back home  that have looted Nigeria dry and still stealing the collective commonwealth of the citizenry mercilessly leaving the huge majority in abject penury with arrogance and no remorse.

While the citizens await and continues to look up to God for help and let the day of reckoning beacons fast as their last hope.

Truth is that Super Falcons have brought in some brighter side of life to the hungry ridden Nigerian masses presently.  The girls are playing more for the poor Nigerians.   We pray for them, we are more at home with them because the team has brought great relief for the removal of petroleum subsidy that has made living in Nigeria become nonsense.    

As we face the future with questionable leadership in Nigeria, the bourgeoisies said “let the poor breathe” yet, the breathing is not forthcoming.  One prays Super Falcons will keep the flag flying as the championship goes on.

As we keep our fingers crossed hoping for the best, Keep shooting hard till next week. Meanwhile we wait!!
